FIRST POSITIVE CASE OF INFLUENZA A(H1N1) VIRUS  IN MENARA TM

Dear Colleagues

On 26 June 2009, TM received a confirmed report that one of our colleagues in Menara TM is infected with the Influenza A(H1N1) Virus. This is the first positive case of infection reported in TM. Based on the chronology of events, the staff was probably infected during an official trip to Singapore on 19 June 2009. After experiencing fever and cold for several days, the staff was confirmed to be infected with the Influenza A(H1N1) Virus on 25 June 2009 and had undergone treatment at the Sg. Buloh Hospital.

Hence, the Company has activated the ‘Pandemic Preparedness Team’ chaired by Chief Human Capital Officer at Menara TM to tackle this situation. Among the early measures taken includes providing quarantine facilities at LG1, Menara TM and GF, Annexe 2 as a move to segregate the patient before sending them to hospital. Cleaning and disinfecting works are continually in progress in all common areas of Menara TM, Annexe 1 and Annexe 2 buildings. We are prepared to provide the necessary equipment and material for handling the matter depending on the severity of situation. Our Command Centre at Cyberjaya has been alerted on standby and to be activated as and when required.

The ‘Pandemic Preparedness Team’ will continue to monitor closely the development of the situation and ensure the smooth progress and updated enforcement of the action plan.

Therefore, I urge all Warga TM to take the following precautionary measures:

-         Avoid any contact with those who are not well and having cold and cough;

-         Wash your hands frequently and carefully with soap;

-         Avoid touching your face, especially your nose and mouth, to prevent infection;

-         Cover your nose and mouth whenever you sneeze or cough, or use a face mask;

-         Avoid crowds and open space whenever you are in an infected area;

-         Seek the latest information on this disease and take the necessary precautionary measures to avoid infection;

-         Should you be going on a trip to any of the infected countries, seek information on areas that have been infected and avoid them.

You are also reminded to seek IMMEDIATE medical treatment at the nearest clinic if you show signs of having a cold and/or fever.

You are encouraged to rest at home for three (3) days if you are given medical leave specifically for flu and fever. In case of the medical leave is less than three (3) days, the Company will still exempt you from coming to work for a total of three (3) days (medical leave inclusive). TM staff who returned from an official trip or holiday overseas from countries stated in the Status of Countries Reporting Cases Influenza A-H1N1 as attached, is also required to take these three (3) days self quarantine.

During this self quarantine period, you are still required to conduct your official duties from home.

You are required to notify your respective Human Capital office soonest possible if you are:

§         undergoing self quarantine for the said reason;

§         instructed to be home quarantined by the Ministry of Health; or

§         hospitalized due to Influenza A-H1N1 infection.

KES PERTAMA JANGKITAN VIRUS INFLUENZA A(H1N1) DIKESAN

Rakan-rakan sekalian

-          Elakkan daripada berhubung dengan mereka yang didapati tidak sihat ataupun demam dan batuk;

-          Basuh tangan anda dengan sabun secara rapi dan kerap;

-          Elakkan daripada menyentuh muka anda, terutamanya hidung dan mulut, dengan tangan bagi mengelak jangkitan;

-          Tutup hidung dan mulut anda ketika bersin ataupun batuk, atau gunakan topeng muka;

-          Jika anda berada di kawasan yang terlibat, jauhi tempat-tempat perhimpunan orang ramai dan kawasan luar;

-          Dapatkan maklumat terbaru mengenai situasi penyakit ini dan langkah-langkah yang perlu diambil bagi mengelak jangkitan;

  • menjalani kuarantin kendiri atas sebab-sebab yang telah dinyatakan;
